Good day, friends!
In today's post, we'll learn about the tasty
aquatic creature. What kind of creature is that prawn? Prawns are high in all
of the nutrients our bodies require. Our bodies obtain a lot of nutrients from
consuming it. This page will provide thorough information regarding
prawn's health benefits.
Habitat
Tiger and
banana prawns reach maturity in coastal waters, rivers, and creeks. Prawns
prefer mud in general. Prawn hatchlings can spend up to six months swimming in
open water in these modest nursery habitats.
Diet
Prawns
are omnivorous and primarily scavengers. Some are herbivores, while others are
vegetarians. Prawns eat plant debris, decaying organic matter, bacteria,
small shellfish and worms. Since king prawns are light-sensitive, they bury
themselves during the day and feed actively at night. Tiger prawns are active
both during the day and at night. The diet of prawns varies based on their
growth stage and breed.

Prawns have
a lifespan of two to three years. It reaches sexual maturity in six to eight
months and eggs in seawater. King prawns breed all year, whereas tiger prawns
primarily mate in the spring and summer. A prawn spawns several times every
year. Hundreds of thousands of eggs are released by the female.
Within 24
hours, the fertilized eggs hatch, and the larvae spend their time floating in
the water, maturing into different stages as they migrate out to sea in
shallow, hypersaline (high salt) waters. When they reach these shallow waters,
they are known as 'postlarvae' and are ready to settle to the bottom, where
they will mature into juvenile prawns. They can spend up to six months in
nursery regions before attaining the size required for physiological changes.

During
this migration, prawns enter trawl grounds (mostly sandy or muddy areas) and
are commercially harvested for the first time. These places are often located
offshore, in water depths ranging from 10 to 30 metres. This migration occurs
every year during the summer and autumn and is referred to as recruitment in
the industry.
Tiger prawns Whole prawns are
infinitely adaptable. Great in curries and on the grill since it absorbs more
spices. You can use the shell to make stock or soup.
